Spiritual tours to India can be divided into two sections .One is religious tourism to attain peace via touring of different religious sites. Second is holistic healing via Ayurveda that encompasses meditation, yoga, sound and music therapy and naturopathy.
 
Hindu Religious Tourism
In north India , it revolves around Holy River Ganges and its many tributaries. Hinduism has sixty -four crores deities and innumerable sites dedicated to them are spread all over India. Most important north Indian religious site are Haridwar, Rishikesh, Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Gomukh and Yamnotri (these together make Char Dham Tour) in state of Uttaranchal. Religious sites in Himachal Pradesh include temples of seven goddesses, Brijeshwari Temple in Kangra and Chintpurni Temple in Kullu valley and Bajnath temple. Vaishno Devi, Bhairava temple, Khir Bhavani temple and Amarnath C aves are the religious.
Sites in the state of Jammu and Kashmir . Varanasi , Sangam in Allahabad , Mathura and Vrindavan fall in state of Uttar Pradesh. Ujjain , famous for its Mahakal temple and Indore , for its lord hanuman temple and Bada Ganpati temple are in Madhya Pradesh. Khajuraho temples fall in state of Madhya Pradesh. South India -The religious trek covers rock cut Mahabalipuram temples, Kanchipuram (city of 1000 temples), Bragatheeswarar Temple in Thanjavur and Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Madurai all falling in the state of Tamil Nadu. Tirupati Tirumala is situated in state of Andhra Pradesh and Lord Jagannath T emple in Puri is in state of Orissa.
 
Buddhist Tourism
Ajanta & Ellora Caves in Maharashtra, Sanchi Stupa in Madhya Pradesh, Mahabodhi Temple Complex in Sarnath , also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where Lord Buddha attained Nirvana and gave his first sermon in Bihar are the most important Buddhist religious sites. Other equally important site is Vaishali in Bihar , where Lord Buddha gave his last sermon and announced his nirvana. Hirapur Temple in Orissa, Spituk Monastery and Hemis Monastery in Ladakh are the other major Buddhist temples.
 
Jainish Tourism
Dilwara Jain Temples , Palitana T emples , Ranakpur and Jain Golden Temple in Falna in Rajasthan, Kanch Mandir in Madhya Pradesh are important religious sites of Jainism. The most important shrine is Sravanabelagola in Mysore , Karnataka.

The holiest of Sikh shrines is Golden temple in Amritsar , Punjab . Next on the list is HemKund Sahib in Himachal Pradesh , that is the highest gurudwara in world where devotees starting from G ovind D ham trek a distance of 4329 meters to pay their respects to the Granth Saibh. Sri Guru Nanak Devji G urudwara at Manikaran in Himachal Pradesh is known for its hot springs that are said to have therapeutic properties. Poanta Sahib is situated in Sirmour, Himachal Pradesh and was founded by tenth Guru Govind SinghJi.
